Our History

Faith Baptist Church began when an evangelist got a burden for the east Dayton suburbs (Beavercreek) on a visit through the area.  That burden led him to write an article in the February 1963 issue of the Moody Monthly paper that asked for someone looking to start a church to send a letter to a given address.  A man by the name of Wendell Inskeep responded to the letter.  Some calls were then made, a Friday meeting was set and a small gathering was formed.  Soon the group started meeting on Sundays and began a search for a pastor to lead them.  A couple of members of the group traveled to Cincinnati to consult with Dr. John Rawlings on the search - who in turn led them to contact Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.   Dr. Frank Collins received the call in Springfield and gave them the name of Charles Lynn as a possible candidate for the pastor position.

Charles Lynn came to candidate for the position with around eighteen people in attendance.  A question and answer session followed his message.  Charles Lynn, sensing the group was not one hundred percent for him, left with the statement, "If the group is in one hundred percent agreement, call me Wednesday."  After much prayer and consideration, the group then made the call and Charles Lynn became the congregation’s first pastor.  On July 15, 1963 the church with a total of thirteen founding members was organized and the name Faith Baptist Church was chosen.  The church would meet at the Beavercreek Elementary School on Dayton-Xenia Road for sixteen months while praying for direction on a building.  Charles Lynn spotted some property owned by a person in California.  In a meeting with the church, Charles Lynn suggested that if God wanted the church to have the property, the owner would require no more than $19,000 for the land. It was never listed on the market.  A letter was written to the owner and their offer came back right at $19,000.  Through $9,000 raised by the church and another $10,000 given by Temple Baptist Church and Pastor G. B. Vick in Detroit, Michigan, the church would build its first of many buildings starting in 1964.

Through the blessings of God, the church under the leadership of Pastor Lynn would grow and flourish as it became a lighthouse for a thriving community.  In 1970, due to the growth and development of the church, Dave Harney was brought on staff to lead the youth and the music ministry.  On February 14, 1974, Gary Favor was hired as an assistant pastor and in 1986 become the associate pastor.

Faith Baptist would see many great milestones and blessings - from a dynamic bus ministry of 14 buses, to a special day where over 2,000 people were in attendance.  On March 24, 1994, Pastor Charles Lynn was suddenly called home to be with the Lord.  The church through prayer and much consideration would then call Associate Pastor Gary Favor to become the senior pastor.

Through the godly leadership and vision of Pastor Favor, Faith Baptist would continue to develop its ministry and outreach to the community and world by taking on many more local and stateside ministries - including supporting three Bible colleges and adding a Faith Promise Missions Program that has helped build a missions program that supports 78 missionaries and missions projects.  Through the blessings of God, Faith Baptist's goal remains the same - to lift up our Savior Jesus Christ and spread His Good News throughout greaterDayton and into the world.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.
